Remittances Continue to Fall

With a deepening recession in the U.S., the money being sent to Mexico by Mexicans working north of the border has had the largest monthly decline on record. Many workers have returned home to their towns and families with no jobs available in either country.

The Associated Press reports that: Remittances dropped to $1.9 billion from $2.4 billion in May 2008, the central bank said on Wednesday. The amount of money sent home in the first five months of 2009 fell 11.3 percent to $9.2 billion compared with the same period last year.
